A Dilemma
No matter what I do, all I think about is you. Even when I’m with my wolves you know I’m crazy over you.
Ok enough of the early 00’s rnb. For now.
Firstly, an apology, I’ve been a bit slack recently with keeping to the schedule of one post per day. Unfortunately, things around here have been a bit hectic, and the writing portion of my dissertation has begun (15000, mostly bullshit, words) so sometimes I find it a bit hard to find the motivation or time to keep up to date with my blogging.
Today I want to talk about a problem which probably affects all gamers to some degree and one which is giving me a bit of a headache now. Stick or twist, it’s time to decide.
If you have read any of my other posts, you will know that I am currently in the process of building a luna wolves army. One of the problems I find with being a student and being away from your army and projects is that most of your 40k hobby involves thinking. Thinking is the enemy. I think that I am quite an indecisive person generally, maybe not in some ways (see what I did there), but definitely in 40k.
Perhaps it was a mistake to plan an army at the end of an edition not knowing what will change in the next one. It certainly doesn’t help that with the new allies rules I’m going to end up with a 2000 point guard force and a dozen combat patrol forces.
Anyway, some of you may be aware that I have been flirting with the idea of a world eater’s pre heresy allies list. The more I think about it, the less motivated I become to push on with the luna wolves. I think this is partly because with the new rules for vehicles, the mechanised speartip that I was planning now seems a bit less effective, but also because I have really struggled with the colour scheme.
White is a difficult colour to paint. If you start with a black undercoat you need about 6 different layers of grey and then about 12 more of white to get a good looking white coat out of it. If you start with a white undercoat, as I did, it’s hard to make them look like you have actually put some effort into them. This has been a particular problem with the vehicles, the marines I have pained I am, by and large, happy with.
The biggest problem I am facing though is the urge to play a different kind of army. The luna wolves were going to use the space wolves codex, and the list I was planning was based on good shooting while being able to handle itself in combat. But I already have a similar set up with my guard.
Writing allied lists using the BA codex for the world eaters I started to get excited (not in that way), about having units that will give me the ability to genuinely smash face in close combat, not just hold their own, or win combats through attrition while losing on combat res every turn. Terminators in a land raider? Yes please.
Therefore I stand at a cross roads, needing to decide whether to stick with the wolves of work on a world eaters list. Happily, the colour scheme is not dissimilar; I have 14 painted tac marines, a rhino, a dread and a drop pod. A bit of blue paint should see them suitably world eatery, but I do worry that they will see less use than they would in a luna wolves army.
Tomorrow, I will write up a couple of lists incorporating the stuff I can easily convert from what I already have.
But if you do not here from me for a while, I will be because I have put a chainaxe through my computer while trying to get into character.
